Overview

The Planning Manager is responsible for all aspects of the Planning function, including but not limited to team oversight, demand planning & forecasting, capacity management, supply planning & inventory management. At a more detailed level this covers production planning, scheduling, inventory optimization and insuring the best use of resources across multiple production entities to fulfill customer demand and business growth. This role requires a hands on leader who will provide daily direction regarding priorities, workload distribution and strategic initiatives often having to contribute in the execution of responsibilities. The Planning Manager will champion the Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) implementing the best structure, processes and supporting tools/analytics to provide Palermo’s with a competitive advantage. This leader will interface and collaborate with key stakeholders including Sales, Marketing, Operations, Strategic Sourcing, Materials Management, Customer Service and Warehouse to make informed business decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Sales and Operations Planning process, monthly meetings and improvement actions.
  • Review long range capacity plan to determine future production and staffing needs.
  • Evaluate production schedule to insure alignment with key initiatives and performance metrics (fill rates).
  • Monitor demand changes of customers, product families or business segments recommending actions to maintain operational efficiencies, customer service levels, inventory position and minimize obsolescence.
  • Anticipate potential issues & communicate improvement opportunities to key stakeholders in the organization.
  • Collaborate with Sales & Operations to ensure successful product launches and discontinuations.
  • Identify and drive Continuous Improvement activities in planning group and across functional areas.
  • Develop and maintain metrics to encourage employee actions and behaviors that drive business improvement.
  • Train, develop and mentor employees in an effective manner to accelerate employee growth.
  • Create and maintain an effective organization through proper selection, development and motivation of staff. 

Qualifications

  • Solid Understanding of MRP, Bills of Materials (BOM’s) and production scheduling.
  • Proven record of managing multiple projects with shifting deadlines & priorities.
  • Self-directed, self-motivated, works well in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills with capability of building consensus and driving issue resolution.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (Ability to influence and persuade).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables, v-lookups, formulas and query writing).

Education and Experience:

  • BS/BA in Business or Supply Chain from an 4-year accredited university (Master’s Degree Preferred).
  • 5-8 years of experience in a demand or operations planning role including system driven MPS and MRP.
  • Experience working in the food industry and/or Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG).
  • Experience driving Continuous Improvement (LEAN, Six-Sigma, etc.).

Licenses or Certifications:

  • APICS Certification in Production and Inventory Management preferred.
  • Green/Black Belt or Six Sigma certification desirable.
